A Colonial Mountain town in northern Sinaloa, similiar to Alamos Sonora. However El Fuerte has the beautiful El Fuerte River running through it 12 months of the year, making the town extremely lush with trees and flowers. El Fuerte (the fort) was founded in 1564 and is 75 km NW of Los Mochis. There are several small hotels that are very comfortable. Riverside cafes, boating right in town, river rafting, fishing right in town, ley grocery store, beautiful colonial plaza with turn of century government buildings and 17th century church, museums,  streets permanently closed off except for foot traffic, fountains.

Ownership of land for foreigner´s must be a bank trust or Fideiocomiso, because the municapality is less than 50km from the sea (although the town itself is more than 50km).
